J2XML Importer 1.6.0 is discontinued. J2XML 3 with J2XML Importer 1.5 plugin is the suggested alternative to this component.

J2XML consists of two separate components, J2XML for Joomla! 1.5 and J2XML Importer for Joomla! 2.5. J2XML has to be installed on the original Joomla 1.5 site to export information as XML files and J2XML Importer acts as an ‘importer’ which has to be installed on the new Joomla 2.5 website.

The new version 1.6.0.72 and above of the Importer allows you to keep the original user ids. So if you want to migrate to other components like JomSocial, Kunena or other, you can now do so without any problems.

Install J2XML for Joomla! 1.5

1. Download the latest J2XML for Joomla! 1.5. Save the files on your computer:

2. Navigate to the admin login page for your Joomla! 1.5 website. Log in with your administrator username and password.
3. Click on "Extensions -> Install/Uninstall". Click the "Browse" button, then navigate to the folder where you saved the J2XML for Joomla! 1.5 file. Highlight the file, then click "Open."
4. Click the "Upload File & Install" button. Wait for Joomla to upload and install the plugin.
5. Click on "Extensions -> Plugin Manager". Search and enable the System - J2XML plugin.

Export users and content

1. Click on "Site -> User Manager"
2. Select all your users and click on the "export" button. An XML file will be created to store the exported information.
3. Click on "Content -> Article Manager", select all your articles, and export them.

Install J2XML Importer for Joomla! 2.5

1. Download the latest J2XML Importer for Joomla! 2.5. Save the files on your computer.

1. Click on "Components -> J2XML Importer". Click the "Options" button. Select the "Advanced" tab.
2. Set the option "Keep id" to yes

Import users and content

1. Click the "Browse" button, then navigate to the folder where you saved the xml file with the users data. Highlight the file, then click "Open."
2. Click the "Import" button. Wait for J2XML Importer to upload and import the data.
3. Repeat the procedure to import Joomla Articles.
   As shown below, users keep the original ids.
